GENERAL INFORMATION
Bardic Drama School is an enrichment opportunity for children and young people in the areas of language, communication, acting, theatre and film crafts. The majority of our students join us to gain the skills, knowledge, relationships and values our program delivers. For some of our students drama is a high priority and they have won scholarships to their high schools, a place at NIDA, or begun to build careers within the entertainment and related industries. Students come to us to build confidence, focus creative energy, because a friend is studying with us or because they want to nurture an interest in performance or story telling.
WHAT DO THE STUDENTS DO IN CLASS?
Every class begins with a teambuilding exercise to connect the group. This is followed by voice and movement work. At the beginning of term 1 and 4 the program is comprised of a sequence of short activities aimed at building the skills and identifying the ideas necessary for creative projects. This includes stimulus material, brainstorming, workshopping ideas and presenting information. By the end of term 2 and term 4 the emphasis has shifted to polishing creative work for presentation to an audience. Every student plays a role in a play and a film every year.
WHAT DO STUDENTS GET FROM THE COURSE?
Over the past 14 years we have seen our students gain higher marks in English at school, manage their time more effectively and become highly skilled at working as part of a team. They develop into confident problem solvers who enjoy literature, film and performance. Our students build effective communication skills in written, oral and visual languages. They form healthy relationships and develop the skills to maintain them. Bardic Drama School students stand out due to their poise, support of others, confidence and clarity of thinking. Most importantly our students take pride in their unique traits and abilities and develop a love of learning.
SPECIAL NEEDS
If your child has special needs please let us know when you enrol. If you would prefer to discuss the way we will include your child prior to enrolment please telephone. We adapt our delivery to our students. We do not expect students to adapt to us. Our studio has very good access including a ramp, doors wide enough for motorized wheelchairs and enough space for wheel chairs to turn in the disabled toilet. Students with special needs have always been important contributors to our creative work.
TRIAL CLASSES
We don't offer trial classes as we have a responsibility to those who have already made a commitment to the school. The presence of observers can inhibit learning for many students. We know that one class is not enough for a person form new relationships and to engage with a new activity. We offer holiday workshops for those families who would like to try our program before enrolling in term classes. Details are on our events page.
