Imagine this. . You arrive at 7pm sharp. You walk in to a beautiful setting, candles, couches, amazing colours and you are warmly greeted by one of the musicians. She offers you a glass of champagne. You enjoy some locally made cheese while getting to know a few of the other guests. Shortly the music starts. You sink into a comfy chair, sit back and relax as you listen to the incredible sounds of the musicians. It’s time for the food so you are taken to a state of the art kitchen. Bart Beek is the chef presenter and introduces himself. A luscious recipe has been cooked and is immediately served to you. As you eat away the chef recreates the recipe right in front of you and through his incredible skills knowledge and often crazy wit you take it all in. A special wine chosen to match the recipe is also served. You watch Bart and you ask questions, trying to remember everything. He reassures you all is well as every guest receives a copy of each recipe. Another wine is served. Time for a break, you take the opportunity to chat to your friends, one of the musicians or the chef. Back into the lounge and again you find the comfiest chair just in time before the musicians play. Guitar, voice, harmonies, one of the musicians brings out his electric violin and describes how it is a made to order one off in the world and then he plays. You are away with the music again. Back into the kitchen, two different courses, more fun, food and wine. One more musical break happens just prior to the giveaways. There are only 18 guests here the odds of winning something are really high. And if you don‚ t it doesn’t matter you can always enjoy the surprises in the gift bag that each guest receives later. What a night, what a sensation, what a sensual journey. You’ve already decided you‚ re coming back. But will it be Moroccan this time or maybe Indonesian ...hmmmmm..

Bart and Alaine were living in Sydney each doing own their prospective jobs - Bart running restaurants and presenting cooking demonstrations and Alaine directing plays and performing music. Over a good glass of red one night, they brainstormed the concept of creating a setting where guests could come along, enjoy a full dinner, learn how to cook the courses and be entertained through quality music and theatre. After a few more glasses of red, the setting was agreed upon - a stunning kitchen with state-of-the-art fittings that could seat 20 and another lounge area that was warm, cosy and intimate.

Melbourne was chosen as the location being a culturally rich city that is so 'liveable' and going ahead in leaps and bounds. Werribee was chosen as the suburb for two main reasons. One - It is a huge growth area with therefore opportunities for an untapped market of people wanting something different in the West. Two - Alaine grew up there when she first came to Australia and since her whole family have returned to Werribee, Bart and Alaine were keen to be around strong family support.

It was thought initially that the venue would have to be specifically built, until they came across their beautiful Fasham Johnson architecturally-designed home. The kitchen was completely gutted and rebuilt to meet the standards of the studio.

The name 'Essence Food Studio' was born out of the concept of taking food, music and theatre back to its essential elements and to the purest of quality.
