The aim of all art teaching at the Foreshore Art School is to develop, through instruction, the unique creative abilities of each student. This is done in small classes through the use of a broad curriculum.

School students are given the opportunity to experience many art mediums, from drawing and painting, to sculpture, ceramics and animation. Parallel educational outcomes are:

• the development of cultural understanding;
• enhanced self esteem; and
• the chance to make rewarding friendships.

Other results are enhanced hand eye coordination, the ability to persevere with a task and increased self reliance. In addition to customary two dimensional art experiences, students are encouraged to further their line drawings into wire sculptures, or their portrait painting into sculptured heads. Each year ends with a student exhibition where students, family and friends celebrate the year’s work.

A special effort is made to keep classmates together from year to year so that friendships are sustained over time.

Adult classes at the Foreshore Art School are delivered by tutors trained in both art and education. The student centred curriculum aims to help each artist discover their own style through undertaking structured art experiences. Because of this students can confidently expect to make progress towards exhibiting their work in public exhibitions.

Studio Sessions run in parallel to both classes. More experienced students, or perhaps those who would like to negotiate an individual program, can make their art with an experienced teacher as mentor and guide.
