Likewise, with a professionally cooked meal; whether it is a rump steak, grilled salmon or simply a bowl of soup, the meal is not delivered to the table with just that single item on the plate or in a bowl.

The dish usually consists of other features or ‘add ons’ such as sauce, vegetables, accompaniments and garnish. Even a bowl of soup arrives at the table with perhaps a dollop of cream, a sprinkle of chopped fresh herbs, crunchy croutons or a slice of toasted bruschetta. These all contribute to the overall appeal of the food.

This unit introduces you to the skills needed to professionally present food. In the process, you will learn how to provide your customers with their dish selections including correct sauces, garnishes and accompaniments within a team environment.
