In October 2006 the Parliament of Victoria passed the Conveyancers Act 2006. When the act comes into operation it will establish a new system of regulation and licensing for non-lawyer Conveyancers in Victoria. Under the Act, a person will not be permitted to carry on a conveyancing business in Victoria without a conveyancer’s licence from the Business Licensing Authority or unless the person is an Australian Legal Practitioner for the purposes of Victoria’s Legal Profession Act 2004. To be eligible for a licence, a Conveyancer must have obtained 12 months work experience and have completed educational qualifications set out in the regulations. Licensing requirements Once the act comes into operation, non-lawyer conveyancers will only be permitted to carry on a conveyancing business in Victoria if they have a conveyancers licence from the Business Licensing Authority.

4 industry core units, plus
6 sectoral core units, plus
2 elective units.
