Australians love coffee! We drink around 10 million cups of coffee each year – this means a lot of beans to grow, pick, roast, grind and extract into coffee. It also means a lot of cups, saucers and teaspoons need to be washed, dried and stacked and litres of milk stored and chilled too. Australia has a significant ‘coffee culture’. No matter where you are making or serving it, you will be judged on the quality and consistency of the coffee.

The secret to making good coffee is held by the skill of the barista making it. Their training – which can take up to four years – has turned making espresso coffee into an art form. Their skill can make all the difference between a satisfied or dissatisfied customer. Preparation is vital for providing consistently good coffee. Set up an efficient, clock-work routine and you’ll soon find yourself making magnificent coffee.

This course provides internationally-recognised training in the skills and knowledge required to extract and serve espresso coffee using a commercial espresso machine. Also covered are the procedures for effective storage of coffee, cleaning, care and preventative maintenance of machinery.

This course will give you the perfect starting point to becoming a professional barista by instilling in you early, the standard habits and procedures common to all master baristas.

WHAT TYPE OF CERTIFICATE WILL I RECEIVE?

Graduates of our Short Courses will at the conclusion of their program receive a Certificate of Completion. You could use this Certificate to prove to a potential or current employer that you have successfully participated in an online training course, offered by an RTO.

Australian students: If you require a Statement of Attainment certificate for employment in your industry, or for use in a Higher AQF Qualification, you will need to enrol in an ‘accredited’ Nationally Recognised Training unit.

How do I print my Certificate?

To protect the integrity of your Certificate, it will be protected by a unique ID number allocated only to you. This number is recorded against your Profile, and if you choose to upload a Photo of yourself into your Profile, it will protect your certificate from duplication and fraudulent use.

COURSE OUTLINE

This course has 7 chapters, in which you will learn how to:

* Organise and prepare work areas
* Provide customer service and advise customers on espresso coffee
* Select and grind coffee
* Extract coffee
* Texture milk
* Serve and present espresso coffee
* Clean and maintain espresso machine.

You will progress at your own speed, page-by-page through the course listening, reading and watching the training material. Along the way you will be invited to participate in a range of self-tests and interactive, problem-solving activities. At the end of each chapter, our computer will test your understanding of the content via 20 multiple-choice questions. These 20 questions are distributed evenly across each of the 7 chapters, and you will need to answer each question correctly to move forward to the next chapter of the course.
