Guinean master drummer Mohamed Camara teaches a range of traditional West African arrangements offering students an in-depth understanding of rhythm and pulse. The classes are a great way to socialise relieve stress and have fun while learning some exciting new skills!

The course covers a wide variety of traditional rhythm from Guinea West Africa involving djembe accompaniments and solos dun dun accompaniments and songs. The rhythms come from the different tribal groups in Guinea and cover both 4/4 and 6/8 time. All classes accompanied by Anna Camara on the dun duns.

The course offers students an in-depth understanding of rhythm and pulse as well as djembe technique. By the end of the course students will be familiar with a broad repertoire of traditional Guinean rhythms and songs.

Open to people of all ages and abilities - no experience necessary!The classes can be loud so earplugs may be worn if necessary.

Mohamed has conducted workshops at the Victorian College of the Arts, NMIT and the Victorian Arts Centre's African Village, and currently teaches African drumming at CERES, Clifton Hill Primary School, and Esoteric Gallery in Northcote. Mohamed is a founding member of Melbourne’s exciting West African percussion and dance ensemble Muhanamwé. Meaning "culture" in the traditional Guinean language Susu, Muhanamwé also features Guinean master drummer Aliou Sylla, percussionist Anna Camara and dancer Bobo Ousmane Diallo.

Mohamed is a valuable resource for the traditional music of Guinea, with his extensive repertoire of rhythms and songs. His passion for music, captivating stage presence and connection with audiences and students alike has made him a highly respected musician in both Australia and Guinea.
