This course is designed to significantly enhance the student’s prospects of gaining employment by providing a solid grounding in basic computer skills required in today’s business environment.

Developing skills in using a graphical user interface (MS WINDOWS).
Providing a solid grounding in the most widely used business computer software packages (MS WORD, EXCEL, ACCESS and a DESKTOP PUBLISHING PACKAGE)
Providing a basic understanding of computer networks
Developing skills in the area of communication
Providing an understanding of Workplace Health and Safety issues
Providing the student with a better understanding of the Information Technology industry and how they may fit into it
Installing software packages and maintaining computer system security
Identifying components of Multimedia
Using the Internet Effectively
Learning to operate computer hardware and peripherals

Career Opportunities
Graduates may be employed as assistant computer technical officers, data entry and retrieval officers and clerical workers.

Two terms.

No formal entrance requirements.

Skills Recognition- Exemption/Transfers
Students completing the Certificate II in Information Technology will be able to apply to undertake the Certificate IV in Information Technology. Students will be eligible for exemptions in some subjects.

WHAT WE DO

Meadow Heights Learning Shop (MHLS) delivers accredited adult, community and further education courses and community development programs in Meadow Heights at - Visy Cares Learning Centre, Centro Shopping Centre and Buchan Street Community Centre.

We also deliver courses in Craigieburn at the Education and Community Centre and in Roxburgh Park at the Homestead Community Arts and Cultural Centre.

As a Neighbourhood House we are a local community-owned organisation and provide a range of generalist services to people through their changing life stages. Our programs include -

provision of social, educational and recreational activities for the communities in a welcoming, supportive environment;
good quality, affordable, childcare and playgroups; and
a range of opportunities for volunteers and people to connect.
