The design training in this workshop is cross-disciplined and focuses on the process involved in the development of design ideas, technical detail and ultimately, a professional portfolio.

The creative process that turns global ideas into specific product is a clear and systematic path. The first half of the workshop will focus on pulling together the creative resources & materials needed to develop new seasonal product.

The second day of the workshop will move onto the selection of designs and the technical detail required from the designer for the development of prototypes and first samples.

This workshop covers the creation of fashion figure templates from fashion photography, working with the nine head-height fashion figure. There are demonstrations & practice sessions in the use of different colour & media to create depth, movement & print effects in the illustration. Notes:

This is an introductory level workshop for adjusting commercial patterns that is suitable for students & teachers at all skill levels. The first day of the workshop will focus on an understanding of the body and the best location for the alteration between sizes and personal fittings. There will be demonstrations of initial changes that can be made to commercial patterns prior to first make. The second day of the workshop will cover the actual alteration of commercial patterns to improve fit and balance. Participants are encouraged to bring their own commercial patterns and garments so that all participants may benefit from real life examples.

Corset Block & Pattern Development (2 days)
This is an intermediate level workshop for the development of corset patterns and is suitable for students that have basic patternmaking skills. The workshop program features the steps necessary to develop a production friendly corset for fashion or teaching.
The focus is to utilise the basic fitted block in the development of a simple corset style that becomes the basis of all new styles. Workshop participants will develop a selection of corset shapes suitable for eveningwear and some lingerie applications. Materials and construction techniques will be discussed in reference to historical and industrial methods.

Notes:

In this workshop students will make patterns using existing garments to achieve a well cut pattern without unpicking the garment. Shape and fit will be the focus when developing patterns from a tee shirt, woven shirt/dress and trousers. Attention will be paid to placement and effective use of grain, and the students ability to square off or 'true' the new pattern shape after copying. Initially garments will be provided for the first day exercises. Students will be advised on the most suitable garments to bring for the second days training. Particular attention will be paid to the student bieng able to recoginse a well balanced pattern. At the end of the workshops students will leave with 2-3 completed patterns for their own use.

Great Trousers (2 days) The first day of the workshop will cover the basics of the trouser block and the vital elements of a well fitted, balanced trouser. Students will be encouraged to alter the basic industry block for industry or personal use. The second day will focus on waistband, fly and pocket detailing for tailored and casual trousers. Industry standards and manufacturing norms form the basis of the training offered at Studio Farò.

Notes:

Darts to Drape (2 days) Utilising the basic industry blocks the workshop participant will learn manipulation techniques producing sophisticated styles for evening and daywear. Emphasis is placed on achieving good fit utilising both straight and bias grain styles.
The second day of this workshop will be to develop complex and intricate draping effects from flat patterns. In particular the fitted bodice and corset block will be manipulated to produce clever and sophisticated styles suitable for high end fashion product.
