Contemporary Songwriting Course

This eight week course is the perfect introduction to contemporary and popular song writing. The aim of the course is help you discover the potential songwriter within. Discover through examination and analysis how the great song writers of our time have used perfect formula's to create hit songs . And learn through structured and practical exercises how to harness your creativity to generate your own personal works of art.

The course will cover analysis of all elements of contemporary songwriting. As well as discuss ways to approach song writing how to set goals where to start and when to stop how to refine how to determine your style and identify your own personal signature. The aim of the course is to guide you through the process of writing lyrics melodies and chords. To demonstrate how using harmony and diatonic chord structures you can write functional chord progressions by learning how chords and scales are used correctly to create songs. Discover what is a hook what is song form what is a riff and how these elements can either make or break a great song.

Through practical weekly exercises you will create at least one piece of work during the term of the course.

After the course you will:
Understand how to use scales and chords to write melodies and chord progressions
Understand how harmony works within a song Write lyrics
Understand the elements of popular and contemporary songwriting including how hooks form riffs and rhythm are used to give your song that personal touch
Know how to set your goals
Have ideas to get started and know when to stop
Learn how to refine your songs
Have a basic understanding of music theory needed for songwriting

The course is a great opportunity to share and learn from the experiences of yourself and others.

All courses need a minimum number of students to go ahead. If your course does not have enough students it will be cancelled and you will be informed by email or sms.

You will need to bring a pen. You will be supplied with a workbook and full course notes. There will be refreshments.
