We are a not-for-profit organisation that supports people with disabilities, people of all ages – young and old, people with dreams and people with personal aspirations. We have particular expertise in the area of spinal cord injury and poliomyelitis, but also support people with a wide range of disabilities including cerebral palsy, motor neurone disease, acquired brain injury, multiple sclerosis and stroke. We also support the healthcare needs of older people, new mothers and children of all ages.

COURSE SUMMARY
Participants learn how to care and support elderly people in their home. Training provides a strong foundation for how to communicate with clients and provide physical and sociological support along with how to treat people with dementia, provide personal care for clients, and work with culturally diverse clients and co-workers.

They will also learn how to work with information requirements in aged and community care sectors and apply basic first aid. The Certificate III in Home and Community Care course can also be delivered with the Certificate III in Aged Care to provide a dual qualification on successful completion.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
The course is delivered as a combination of theory and practical exercises involving individual activities. Independence Australia is committed to providing students with the broadest possible combination of skills and attributes to maximise employability. There are 10 compulsory units in the qualification, and 4 elective units that are selected to maximise relevance to the organisation. Descriptions of the content of each unit are included here in summary and in detail:

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
This qualification will enable the participant to seek work with local government, community organisations and aged care facilities and private nursing homes.

ACCREDITATION
This course is a Nationally Recognised Qualification under the AQTF guidelines.

FURTHER STUDY OPTIONS
Successful graduates from this program will have the opportunity for direct entry into Community Service courses at a more advanced level. This opens their career path for greater responsibility and role development

ENROLMENT
Students must meet eligibility criteria if seeking funding for this program. The specifics of eligibility can be clarified and negotiated in the case of ineligible trainees joining a particular program.

Applicants will need to have:
• a mature disposition and a genuine interest in the care of other people
• basic literacy and numeracy skills are required and will be assessed prior to enrolment

Please bring a form of identification such as driver's licence, passport or health care card to process enrolment.

Independence Australia has the capacity for rolling enrolments, which means that the training can commence at a time convenient to the trainee, their client and your organisation. Individual enrolments can be added to existing class groups, and group enrolments can be specifically customised and branded for your team.

SUITABILITY
This course is suited to both new and existing workers in either Aged Care facilities or Home and Community Care environments. Students will be expected to participate in an assessment in a workplace setting.


DURATION
Certificate III in Aged Care delivered by Independence Australia provides quality outcomes to students over 12 to 14 months depending on student availability, delivery format and current bookings.
FINANCIAL COMMITMENT
For this course, calculation of fees is negotiated with individual students after establishing eligibility for relevant funding and support.

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or Recognition of Current Competencies (RCC) takes into account the knowledge and skills already gained through experience and previous education.
