As a part of the Certificate III in Health Services Assistance - Operating Theatre Technician (HLT33115) we will get you ready for a high intensive environment within the operating theatre. The delivery of this holistic course is based on our experienced trainers’ knowledge of the outside health care sector and to completely prepare you for the expectations and pressures of the job.

Throughout your studies, together we will unlock the core values required to work in the health care industry. You will gain the insight into the philosophy of Australia’s health system and the underpinning values required to practice in an important role within an operating theatre.

Skills to get you job ready:
Over the 10 months, you will gain the best experience to prepare you for your placement and inevitably a rewarding career in as an operating theatre technician. Our experienced trainers will teach you:
 An understanding on how to resolve problems related to the role
 Problem solving with equipment
 Multitasking to staff changes
 Dealing with requests from surgeons that go outside the scope of practice
 How to demonstrate proactive thinking and respond in emergency situations with duty of care and within code of practice
 Manual handling – transferring patients and positioning patients for surgery
 Handling medical gasses
 Provide culturally appropriate care
 Setting and cleaning up theatre
 Facilitation of therapeutic conversations with patients

This course includes 2 weeks of practical work placement.
Plus, we help you find your placement for you in a convenient location!
A Police Check and a Working with Children Check will be required to complete your practical placement.
There is a $200.00 placement fee (non-refundable).

Total number of units = 15
Consists of 7 core units
8 elective units, consisting of:
at least 6 units from the electives listed below,
up to 2 units from any endorsed Training Package or accredited course – these units must be relevant to the work outcome
All electives chosen must contribute to a valid, industry-supported vocational outcome.

Any combination of electives that meets the rules above can be selected for the award of the Certificate III in Health Services Assistance. Where appropriate, electives may be packaged to provide a qualification with a specialisation.

Packaging for each specialisation:

All Group A electives must be selected for award of the Certificate III in Health Services Assistance (Operating theatre technician)
All Group B electives must be selected for award of the Certificate III in Health Services Assistance(Assisting in nursing work in acute care). To achieve this qualification with this specialisation, the candidate must have completed at least 80 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the unit of competency.
