Chinese Zodiac Signs or animals have a certain sequence that that starts with rat(鼠shǔ, the rest of them are ox(牛niú,) tiger(虎hǔ,) rabbit(兔tù,) dragon(龙lóng,) snake(蛇shé,) horse(马mǎ,) goat(羊yáng,) monkey(猴hóu,) rooster(鸡jī,) dog(狗gǒu,) pig(猪zhū.Every year has the corresponding zodiac. Its period is 12 years. For example, if you were born in the year 1991, your zodiac is goat, 2003 is also a goat year. If you were born in 1992, your zodiac is monkey. You can work out that 2004 is still another monkey year.

Maybe you are wondering why cats are not included in the Chinese zodiac system. One of the explanations is: Some people think there were no cats in the ancient China, and the cat was brought back by Tang Sanzang from India. Another story goes: It is said that rat forgot to tell cat the news to attend the meeting where beasts representing the years were selected. So the cat did not appear in the meeting, the meeting ended and it not be chosen.

What do these animal signs represent? It is widely believed that different animals symbolize different characters. For example: dragon means strong, snake means gentle, horse means insistence, goat means unity, rat means wisdom, ox means industry, tiger means brave, rabbit means cautious, monkey means flexible, rooster means constant, dog means loyalty, pig means easy-going.
