Course 1 is essential for beginners. It provides an ideal introduction to digital darkroom and enables participants to begin using their digital software for image manipulation.
Digital manipulation techniques have grown rapidly over the past few years and the ability to retouch and control your digital asset management is essential to any level photographer. This course is a practical hands on course supported by a captive DVD of each lesson for the student to refer back to and keep.

Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this course participants will be able to:
RAW vs JPEG - The role of each format and why it's so important to shoot in Raw
Implementing the tools and techniques available in Adobe Camera Raw to edit and enhance
Images
Understand the Adobe Photoshop work environment
Utilise the important components of the software for photographers and image editors
Understand Photoshop workflow
Retouch images and add layers and masks and have a thorough understanding of adjustments.
Timetable
Week 1 Introduction to Bridge, JPEG vs RAW and the Adobe raw interface
Week 2 Implementing the tools and techniques available in Adobe Camera Raw to edit and
enhance images.
Week 3 Adobe Photoshop work environment valuable tools for image editing
Week 4 Introduction to layer and masks grasping Photoshop workflow
Teaching Strategies
Course 4 is delivered via a series of 4 x 3 hour evening classes 6:30pm-9:30pm. Each class is held on the same evening over 4 consecutive weeks and consists of practical hands on instruction and open critique and discussion of assignment work. The open critique is a valuable learning tool. The tutor has the opportunity to appraise your techniques and discuss the positives and negatives and provide the advice and tools to improve your image editing. The open critique enables students to view classmates work and gain ideas and inspiration. Collaboration on assignment work is highly encouraged.
Facilities and Equipment Requirements
This course is delivered from professional photography studios. The tutor will present each class using visual aids and hands on demonstrations. Participants will be expected to have their own laptop with licensed Adobe CS4/5 and the required RAW plug in. Participants are required to bring 20 images created in RAW files to work on during the 5 workshops. A list of requirements will be emailed to each student upon enrolment.

No prior photography or Photoshop knowledge is required.
